At Poison Oak Press, we value our authors and want their manuscripts to be crafted to their full potential, as well as allowing as much creative freedom as possible. While the timeline will vary, here is what you can expect:
Once the author is onboarded, we will spend anywhere from 3-6 months evaluating and preparing the manuscript for beta readers. This may take longer depending on the manuscript's completeness and readiness. During this time, we will also work with you on marketing plans and plans for the pre-order campaign. We will also begin marketing at this time for your upcoming book to build book buzz for your amazing manuscript.
After the in-house manuscript evaluations, we will have beta readers review your manuscript. This can also be anywhere between 2 and 4 months as beta readers go through the process of your book, and leave constructive feedback and notes. This will also be the time we put together your preorder campaigns and get teams ready for your reveals on social media (if desired), including the cover, blurb, description, and release dates.
We will then take the comments left by beta readers and compile them into the changes for the book. This can take up to 2 months to complete. This is also around the time we will open your preorder campaign. These can range from offering apparel and goodies to as simple as marketing the pre-order of the e-book on Amazon.
After beta readers' comments are applied, there will be a developmental edit, ensuring the plot and ARCs are consistent, as well as the pacing throughout the chapters. This will be the last step of changing your book. This can take anywhere from 2 to 5 months, depending on the editor and the author.
Once developmental edits are applied, there will be a final review, and then copy-edits, line-edits, and proofreading will be done. This can take up to 2-3 months.
Once this is completed, we will format your book and get test copies before it goes live!
Again, these are estimated timelines and vary with the author and the manuscript. We will support you along the way and will set collaborative and supportive deadlines throughout the publication process as well.
